If you are someone that regularly occupied with, or someone willing to jump in doing API load testing, you will be most likely to realize that being able to record API requests is a crucial feature and comes handy in most situations. There are many open-source tools available for this, such as Apache Jmeter, mitmproxy, Postman and so on. All these tools serve for the same purpose, but they have little differences between them with positive sides and negative sides. Sometimes these tools might feel primitive and may not satisfy your needs, but you can find more tools which a bit more refined for the job, such as Blazemeter’s chrome extension plugin for recording.

t might have less detailed recording feature, but time to time it gets the job done. Additionally, you don’t have to use Blazemeter’s load testing software even if you record with its chrome extension plugin, as you can find there are many load testing softwares available on the market cheaper than Blazemeter. As you know Blazemeter’s paid version is too expensive and free version has limited functionalities.

For my case, I was not able to record a certain website’s API requests due to port issues, so I used Blazemeter’s chrome extension plugin and it worked. Furthermore, to be honest, I find Blazemeter load testing software a little confusing and overwhelming for me to use, so I looked for other load testing tools to be more suitable for me and I found Loadium which I find easier to understand and navigate through pages, and their prices seemed more feasible. Also, for performance tests reporting is most difficult. Loadium reporting and graph features are very accurate. And has amazing reporting features.

I bought their smallest package available, and with a few clicks I was able to start my test. I would like to share my few points with it since I find it intuitive to use.

Loadium New Test Screen

There were many options for the types of tests such as Gatling Test and Webdriver Test, but I extracted my recording from Blazemeter plugin as jmx file, so I chose the Jmeter Test option from Loadium. Although I did not need, they also seem to feature postman collection conversion to jmx file, if your work involves postman load testing. The following is the configuration page of jmeter test, where you upload your file and set the amount of virtual users for the load test.

After you start the test, it takes a few minutes for load test to be initiated, and then you are redirected to the report screen. Somehow I found the report screen very easy to understand. It has clean and colorful design which I did not find myself lost during roaming around.
